Bringing Poetry to Life with Poetry on Images

Lena Kovadlo is a writer for various content-sharing websites. She's the author of 12 books and helps other authors publish theirs.

One of the ways to bring poetry to life is to include photos with poems you write. You can simply include poem pictures next to your poetic creations that go with the meaning and the message that you convey with your written word. But a better way to bring poetry to life and make it stand out that much more and make it even more memorable is to create poetry on images.

You don't need to be a graphic artist or a professional one at that to create great poetry on images. All you need is some fitting photos and photo editing software that will allow you to place your written poetry on an image you choose to go along with your poems. If the photo you have is perfect then you don't need to do anything with your poetry image but place your poetic text on it. But if your photo is not quite right you may need to edit it and that is where photo editing software comes in. It allows you to tweak your images to fit in perfectly with your poetic creations before placing text on it.

Photo Editing Software...

There are many different photo editing software out there. The one I use is called Corel Paint Shop Pro X6 and I love it. I am by no means an expert on using this photo editing software, but it has a lot of useful features, and lets me create beautiful poetry on images to share with the world. I don't think that I will ever switch to different software, except maybe to upgrade to a newer version.

The poetry images I use for my poems are those I make from my collection of taken photographs. I think it's more fun and more effective to use and make my own images than to use someone else's. Plus, I don't have to worry about copyright infringement, which makes things a lot easier for me. Sometimes all I do to my images is play around with the color, the picture frame, and special effects. Sometimes though I actually change the image a lot to create a totally new image. I make use of a great feature called cloning that allows me to create a new image from an existing image or group of images. Using this feature actually makes me feel like an artist. It makes me feel like I am in the studio painting and that is a lot of fun.

Susan Joyner-Stumpf, who is a very talented graphic design artist, inspired me to start putting my poetry on images, and creating images of my own (even those without poems on them). I have created many poems on images and just images without poetic text and love doing it so much that I crave to do many more of them in the near future.

Here is one of my creations...

I took a photograph I captured on one of my cruises and played around with it a bit using the cloning feature and other special effects. Then I placed a poem on it called "Cruise Ship", which I had written while on that cruise. The image and the poem complement each other well and create a beautiful image that I love a lot. It makes the poem stand out more and it is something that sticks in my mind... I can't get the image or the poem out of my head.

Creating poetry on images sure is a lot fun. Not only does it give me something interesting to do but it also teaches me things I never knew and makes me feel like a real artist and painter. If you haven't done anything like this I urge you to give it a try. You are surely going to love embarking on this new creative journey...

Now you don't need to necessarily place poems on your images, so if you are not good at writing poetry that is not a problem. You can still do this by placing inspirational sayings instead of poems on your images. That was the first thing I did when I started out with my poetry on images project. Loving the way it turned out I started using my poems and have been doing it ever since...
