Just like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel has many keyboard shortcuts that can be used when working with workbooks and worksheets. These shortcuts are easy to use and are great for those who want to save time, or prefer to work with the keyboard rather than the mouse. Below you will find a list of Microsoft Excel keyboard shortcuts that utilize CTRL, ALT, SHIFT, and other commands.

CTRL Shortcuts

  • CTRL + A = Select All
  • CTRL + B = Bold text
  • CTRL + C = Copy text
  • CTRL + D = Fill Down
  • CTRL + F = Open “Find” dialogue box
  • CTRL + G = Open “Go To” dialogue box
  • CTRL + H = Open “Replace” dialogue box
  • CTRL + I = Italicize text
  • CTRL + K = Open “Insert Hyperlink” dialogue box
  • CTRL + L = Create a list
  • CTRL + N = Open a new workbook
  • CTRL + O = Open an existing workbook
  • CTRL + P = Print a worksheet
  • CTRL + R = Fill to the right
  • CTRL + S = Save a workbook
  • CTRL + U = Underline text
  • CTRL + V = Paste text
  • CTRL + W = Close a workbook
  • CTRL + X = Cut text
  • CTRL + Y = Redo an action

ALT Shortcuts

  • ALT + O, H, R = Rename a worksheet
  • ALT + E, N = Delete current sheet
  • ALT + E, M = Move or copy current sheet
  • ALT + Page Down = Move one screen to the right
  • ALT + Page Up = Move one screen to the left

SHIFT Shortcuts

  • SHIFT + F11 = Insert New Worksheet
  • SHIFT + Tab = Move one cell to the left
  • SHIFT + CTRL + Page Down = Select current and next sheet in workbook
  • SHIFT + CTRL + Page Up = Select current and previous sheet in workbook
  • SHIFT + F5 = Display the Find dialog box
  • SHIFT + F4 = Find Next OR Repeat the last find action.

Other Shortcuts

  • TAB = Move one cell to the right
